Setting up the Carrier Charges

Although charges are not required for parcel allocation, it is important to set them up correctly if you wish to display delivery charges on your website via Delivery Options.

Note

Charges are typically based on the classes of service ('service groups' - refer to Creating your Carrier 'Service Groups'). For example, you may opt to offer a flat, fixed rate for economy services, and a higher rate for next day services.

Preparation

Log into the Delivery Manager Delta environment using the Administrator Login and Password that were generated when your account was set up. Only once your configuration is working satisfactorily in the Delta environment, should you copy it to your own Production environment.

Charges Setup

  1. Move down to the Carriers and Services panel and click the Configure Carriers button:

    Configure_Carriers.png
  2. Click Charges next to the selected carrier service, or, if you wish to set the same charges for all services, under the selected carrier:

    Charges_Select.png
  3. You are taken to the Charges page for the particular carrier. Move down to the Add Charge Rule(s) panel, where the carrier service you selected, or else all services if you selected the overall carrier, are ready to have a rule applied.

Besides ensuring that the relevant service(s) is selected, you should also select the following:

    1. The Charge Type (Parcel Count, Weight/Volumetric Weight, etc.).

    2. The required Area(s)/country(s)/zone(s). Leave this blank if the rule is to apply to the whole world),

    3. The required Warehouse(s). Leave this blank if the rule is to apply to all warehouses.

    Note

To select multiple services/areas/warehouses, highlight them using the Shift key (for a range of services) or the Control key (to highlight non-consecutive services).

  4. Construct the rule.

    Note

The rules logic and syntax are exactly the same as for costs, and so refer as required to Cost Rule Components.

For example, we can set up a rule with a Charge Type of Parcel Count just for the 48 Hour services that we would then put into a 48 Hour carrier 'service group'. The rule might apply charges where the consignment has more than a particular number of parcels, e.g.

    Parcels_Rule_Charges.png

    Note

The upper parcel limit is determined by the particular carrier service(s), and so you should set this appropriately.

If a consignment is created that has 10 parcels, the above rule will cause £1.75 to be charged (£0.50 base charge plus 5 x 0.25 = £1.25).

  5. Click Add Rule to activate the rule, which now appears at the top of the screen for each selected service, written in English, e.g.

    Rules_List.png

    Note

There is an Export button on the top right that allows you to export the rules to an Excel file for backup purposes. Such files can be re-imported using the Import Charge Rule(s) panel at the foot of the Charges page.

  6. Create further rules as required, making sure to apply each one to the correct service(s), area(s) and warehouse(s).

    Caution

There is a bin Delete symbol that allows you to remove selected rules. However, you should be wary of removing all charges if they have previously been applied, because this will affect the delivery options returned via Delivery Options.
