Adding Shipping Rules

Using shipping rules in Delivery Manager is an efficient way for you to prioritise the order of carrier services your shipments are allocated to.

It negates the need for development work and requires less maintenance.

Tip

If you're already using service groups please raise a ticket, so you can switch to shipping rules.

You can add shipping rules according to several scenarios. In this article, we’re going to run through a couple of examples.

The first set of shipping rules will be called “Standard delivery” and will prioritise cost over speed of delivery.

The second set of shipping rules will be called ‘Express delivery’ and will prioritise speed of delivery over cost.

Standard delivery

  1. Give your rule a name, in this example the name will be “Standard delivery”.

You’re also required to give your rule a unique 4 character code, in this example the code will be “MP04”. Once done, click Next:

  2. On this step, you can filter your carrier services by service name or by carrier.

Select the services you wish to include in this shipping rule and click Next:

  3. Now you’ll want to define how you would like to rank your shipping rule, depending on how you’d like to use it.

In this example, the shipping rule will be ranked according to Advanced ranking. This means you define which aspect of your delivery is most important for that shipping rule.

Service based ranking allows you to prioritise specific carrier services over others. You can use the icon on the right to move services up and down:

  4. Once, you’ve selected your ranking order, click Next:

    Note

As mentioned above, the Standard delivery shipping rule prioritises cost over speed of delivery, that’s the reason for the ranking in the above picture.

  5. Check your carrier services and prioritisation logic is correct and click Save:

  2. Give your rule a name, in this example the name will be “Express delivery”.

  4. Now you’ll want to define how you would like to rank your shipping rule, depending on how you’d like to use it. Once done, click Next:
