Return on Demand API

The Return on Demand API allows you to generate return labels through simple API calls.  This means you can build return labels. features in your applications.

For example, features that allow:

  • customers to create their own returns labels through your eCommerce experiences

  • customer service teams to create returns labels through the CRM as an RMA process

Note

You can only create Returns Labels for carriers with returns services that are available on your Metapack shipping plan.

If you’re a Metapack customer using on one of our Shipping plans, Return on Demand APIs allows you to:

  • Create, allocate and print carrier compliant returns labels

  • Create manifests for return shipments

To work correctly you will need to ensure:

  • All related warehouses, carriers and services are configured in Metapack Delivery Manager

  • You specify the return carrier service you require

  • The address fields are reversed (Receiptient is swapped with Retailer shipping address)

  • “Pickup" transaction types are only for returns that include integrated pickup request

  • "Delivery" for all other types of returns (drop-off returns, collection returns without pickup request and generic returns that combine the two options)

  • You provide the mandatory returns label data, including the recipient’s name, order number, weight and dims and the consignment value

Labels in a Box

Labels in a Box allows retailers to create a return label (or multiple labels) for inclusion in their outbound shipments for their end customers to then be able to use to return items later.

Note

You can only create Returns Labels for carriers with returns services that are available on your Metapack shipping plan.

If you’re a Metapack customer using our Shipping plans, Return on Demand APIs allows you to:

  • Return labels are created, allocated, printed, and manifested

  • A separate label/allocation is created for each of the return labels that will go into the outbound shipment

  • Carrier compliant labels and carrier manifests for return shipments are generated

To work correctly you will need to ensure:

  • All related warehouses, carriers and services are configured in Metapack Delivery Manager

  • You must specify the carrier service you require

  • The address fields are reversed (Receiptient is swapped with Retailer shipping address)

  • "Delivery" transaction type should be used for all types of Labels in a Box returns

  • To create a Return label the Return API requires that the retailer provides the mandatory data, including the recipient’s name, order number, weight and dims and the consignment value
